There is a huge penalty involved in making an aircraft stealthy. Shapes have to be optimized for low radar- reflectivity…. If there are counter-measures developed to stealth, these expensive warplanes will be sitting ducks. They can’t compete in a dog-fight. The F-35 has the additional compromise of being a jack-of-all trades fighter, designed to be a vertical lift-off plane for the Marines while the Navy and Air Force get a more conventional version. It is years behind schedule and vastly over-budget. Incidentally Boeing produced a prototype that was in many ways superior to this Lockheed jet but it was “not sexy” and the Pentagon chose the better looking Lockheed fighter.
