What Orwell feared was that the Truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared that the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. Orwell feared we would be come a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture. In 1984 and Animal Farm the collective is controlled by fear and propaganda and coercion. In Brave New World the collective is controlled and numbed by inflicting constant superficial pleasure and distraction. Orwell proposed that brute force will control us, Huxley countered that what we desire and covet will ruin us.
